Our vineyard practices embrace sustainability as a way to celebrate the best that mother nature provides, with thoughtful management of any seasonal issues. We are fortunate in the Okanagan Valley with our semi-arid climate which minimizes pests and problems in our vineyards.
This vineyard is Naramata Bench personified. Formed thousands of years ago when glaciers retreated from this valley, the prominent bluffs on the east side of Okanagan Lake epitomize ideal agricultural growing conditions. Originally orchards and now vineyards, over 40 wineries call the Naramata Bench home in this newly established sub-appellation.
The crescent shaped site tilts southwest and surrounds the vineyard with sage brush, maximizing heat units and minimizing frost with good air drainage. Characterized by heavier soils, the combination of silt and loam with some calcareous elements is similar to some of the best vineyard sites in the world.
Planted in 2013 exclusively to Pinot Noir, the vineyard focusses on a single clone, Dijon #115. This vineyard has received its sustainability certification from Sustainable Winegrowing British Columbia.
1 Mill Road Chardonnay lives and thrives in the newly established sub-appellation, The East Kelowna Slopes. The slopes are based on an escarpment created by the flow of Bellevue Creek and Mission Creek into a post-glacial lake called Lake Penticton, which at one time sat at around 150m higher elevation than Okanagan Lake. The vines grow in Rutland soil that consists of up to 60% stone mixed with gravel and glacial deposits. This site sits on a premium southwest facing slope which promotes cool air drainage and extends the growing season. The site receives continuous cooling breezes from the South, helping to retain natural acidity in the grapes while fruit flavors develop to maturity.
The 3.5 acres of clone 95 Chardonnay was planted in 2013 on the original headquarters of Kelowna Land and Orchard (KLO), established in 1904.
This vineyard has received its sustainability certification from Sustainable Winegrowing British Columbia.
